About Genuine Words
The best communication is purposeful and thoughtful – yes, “full of thought”
I am fascinated by the power of language and the facets of communication that help us deliver our messages and connect with others. Whether your project is big or small, online or in print, I can help you craft your message so it resonates with your audience. You can count on my enthusiasm, creative energy, commitment and expertise from start to finish.
Writing, editing and communication strategies have been my focus for more than two decades.
With roots in internal communications, media relations and community relations, I have written for a wide variety of corporate and non-profit audiences, from employees and executives to volunteers, parents, investors, community members and many others.
Since becoming an independent contractor in 2000, I have had the luxury of applying my skills to everything from newsletters, marketing materials and websites to eLearning courses, technical user guides and stakeholder reports.
From 2008-2010, I added magazine writing and editing to my portfolio as the editor of MOMpreneur® Magazine.
A graduate of the University of Waterloo’s Co-op Rhetoric and Professional Writing program, I never grow tired of playing with words and exploring the many mediums through which we express ourselves.
I believe…
Communication should always be linked to an ultimate goal.
Using big words and phrases that sound impressive but don’t say anything is a waste of energy for everyone.
Brief is best. The most successful communication is clear and concise. You’ll earn your audience’s respect by not taking their time for granted.
Great writing needs to be backed by great subject matter.
Strong communication builds strong relationships.
